| Step 1: Use a Viewfinder: Upon arrival at the sketch hike location, the first thing that hits you is the vast amount of information that is out there. Do some of these thoughts appear in your mind? "I don't see anything to sketch." "There is too much to look at." "Where should I begin?" , "What part of the landscape would look the best to draw?" To answer these questions and more, pull out your handy view finder. Now you can look around and focus in on particular spots that are the most appealing to you. My favorite viewfinder is a slideless slide holder: All you have to do is remove the film from an old slide and you are ready to frame your image. To get a wider view, just put the view finder closer to your eye. For a close-up view, move the slide further away from your eye. If you forgot your slide, you can always pretend to be a movie director and use your big fingers and thumbs to form a viewfinder. |
